Thank you for your interest in the Pre-K program and North Valley Academy.
Our Pre-K program is a state funded grant and is open, at no cost, to any child who will be 4 years of age prior to September 1, 2018. Your child must be 4 years old by this date or s/he is not eligible for our program. Completing the application is the first step in the admission process. A completed application does not guarantee admission into the program.
Complete information about the lottery process is available on our website: www.nvanm.org
Admission to the Pre-K program is done through a lottery process. The lottery will take place March 14, at 5:00pm. Applications must be received prior to March 2, 2018 to qualify for the initial lottery drawing. NM Pre-K is a separate, state funded program: because we are separate schools, siblings of currently enrolled NVA K-8 students do not have priority in the Pre-K lottery and will have to go through the lottery process again upon entering kindergarten. Families of students selected will be notified by phone and/or email. If additional spaces become available, they will be filled in order of the lottery draw. Parents must notify the school within 72 hours of an offer of placement being received. After 72 hours, the next family on the list will be offered placement.
Please note: The program is subject to State funding. If, for some reason, NVA were to lose its funding for this program, Pre-K services will be on a paid system, or, may not be provided at all.
If you would like to visit the classroom, there will be an Open House on the evening of January 31, 2018. The evening will begin at 5:00 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m. During this time, teachers will be available and all classrooms open.
Calendar and Times
The calendar for NVA Pre-K is being worked out and will be put on the website as soon as we have it. Currently, there will be one extended day session available for 20 students. The hours have not been finalized but will consist of four days a week, 6-7 hours a day.
All students accepted in the NM Pre-K program will need to provide birth verification. You will need to bring your child’s birth certificate to school for age verification.
Well-Child Check, Dental Screening, and Current Immunizations
Students accepted into the NVA Pre-K program will need a well-child check by a doctor or clinic prior to the first day of school. Up-to-date vaccinations are required and a visit to the dentist is recommended. You will find the needed forms to be completed by the doctor on our website under Admissions/Registration for New Students.
Please note: children will not be able to attend Pre-K until all shots are current. Copies of shot records and the completed Preventative Health Care Examination Form may be brought to the office during regular business hours or mailed/faxed to the address above. An up-to-date shot record is needed for enrollment.
Students without immunizations must apply for a Certificate of Exemption at www.health.state.nm.us/immunize/forms/exemption.pdf
Pre-K students also participate in state-mandated hearing and vision screenings. These are non-invasive, routine wellness screenings. There is an optional dental screening that will also be available to your child. If you have any questions regarding these screenings, please call the school.
North Valley Academy has a uniform policy in place which does include the Pre-K program. The uniform consists of khaki bottoms (shorts, pants, skirts, jumpers or capris) and a maroon polo shirt. We recommend closed-toed shoes (preferably sneakers) for safety reasons.
